Kari Daugherty attended River View High School in Coshocton, Ohio where she helped lead her team to back-to-back state titles in the 2005-06 and 2006-07 seasons. She claimed the title of State Tournament MVP her freshman year (05-06) and the Tournament Co-MVP her sophomore year (06-07). Along with these honors, Daugherty is a three-time First Team ECOL and Eastern District Team selection. In 2009 she was named All-Ohio Co-Player of the Year. Daugherty was also named All-Ohio First Team in 2008 and the All-Ohio Second Team in 2007.
Daugherty, #44, joins the Flyers having been named to the District 5 First Team all four years at River View. In back-to-back seasons (07-08 and 08-09), she garnered First Team All-Ohio honors and was named the ECOL Player of the Year, Eastern District Player of the Year, and District 5 Player of the Year.
She joins her older sister Atlantic 10 All-Conference selection Kristin Daugherty who is a junior on the team this year.
Why did you decide to play basketball at UD?
I felt like the program was really one the rise, but more importantly the people here are amazing. I came to this team because of the coaches and the teammates that I would get to share my experience with.
When did you first start playing basketball?
I first started playing basketball in the third grade and I was AWFUL! I told my mom I wanted to quit because I was so bad. Thankfully she talked me out of it.
What is your major? Why?
Middle Childhood Education. I feel like being a teacher at this age level, I will really be able to have a lasting impact on kid’s lives.
Who do you look up to the most? Why?
My Parents. It might sound biased but they are the best people I know. They’ve raised me to the best of their abilities and I hope that one day I can be as good of a parent as they are.
What is the best part about being a UD Flyer?
The team! I love each and every one of the girls.
What has been your most memorable moment in life? On the court?
The most memorable moment in life and on the court is when my High School Basketball team made it to State my senior year.
What is something every fan needs to know about you?
I love big crowds!
What is the hardest thing about being a student-athlete?
The hardest thing about being a student-athlete is trying to balance everything.
What are three words you think your teammates would use to describe you?
Fun, competitive, and nice
Why did you pick your jersey number?
I wanted 40 my freshman year in high school, but it was taken, so I was going to wear number 42, but on picture day the coach couldn’t find 42 so I took 44 and fell in love with it.
What is your favorite part of your game?
My set shot.
What is one question you wish we asked you? Answer it.
Favorite snack: Ice.
Who is your role model? Why?
My parents! I may be biased, but they are the two best people I have ever known!!
What athletes do you admire? Why?
I admire any athlete who sticks it out. I know too many people who have quit when the going gets tough so those who play through the pain are the ones I admire.
What is your dream job? (not career goal but cool thing to do) .
I think it would be fun to be a movie star, minus all the publicity.
If you could have dinner with any three people in the world (living or deceased) who would they be? Mom, Dad, and Sister (I LOVE MY FAMILY)

I was born at the exact same time as Kristin (9:59).
