DAYTON, Ohio - The University of Dayton women's basketball team hosts the Indiana-Pennsylvania Crimson Hawks in the Flyers' lone exhibition match Friday, Nov. 6 at 7 p.m. ET at UD Arena.
The exhibition game can be followed online via Gametracker and streaming audio is available at www.DaytonFlyers.com. Play-by-play will be provided by 1660 Information Radio's Barney Sentner.
The Flyers are coming off the first postseason win in the program's modern history and went 21-14 last season. Dayton was selected to finish tied for third in the 2009-10 Atlantic 10 Women's Basketball Preseason Poll. The preseason A-10 ranking is the highest ever for the Flyers, who are led by seventh-year Head Coach Jim Jabir.
The Flyers also tied a league-high with three players named to preseason teams; junior Kristin Daugherty and sophomore Justine Raterman were both second team selections, while sophomore Casey Nance was named to the preseason all-defensive team.
The Flyers return all five starters and the top seven scorers from the 2008-09 team that made its third-ever and second consecutive postseason appearance in the Women's National Invitation Tournament.
IUP, the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference champions for the last three years, suffered a 71-42 setback at Duquesne Sunday, Nov. 1. Junior Eryn Withers led the Crimson Hawks with nine points. Senior Hillary Shope added eight points and six rebounds. IUP went 26-6 last season and earned a berth to the NCAA D-II Regional for the third consecutive season.
The 2009-10 Crimson Hawks lost three starters, including two-time All-America Jahzinga Tracey, and were predicted to finish third in the PSAC West in the annual preseason poll of the division's head coaches.
Dayton opens the regular season with a big weekend at home; taking on No. 10/10 Michigan State, who advanced to the NCAA Sweet 16 last year, and No. 19/23 Louisville, who was the NCAA National runner-up in 2008-09. UD hosts the Spartans Friday, Nov. 13 at 7 p.m. ET and the Cardinals Sunday, Nov. 15 at 1 p.m. ET.
Fans who buy a ticket to the Michigan State game will get a free ticket to the Louisville game. Also fans that show their ticket stub from the men's basketball game against Creighton (played Saturday, Nov. 14) will get free admission.
