FLYERS SWEEP ILLINOIS STATE TO REMAIN UNBEATEN

Sept. 4, 2009

Final Stats

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The University of Dayton Flyers rolled to a big 3-0 (25-22, 25-11, 25-23) win over the Illinois State Redbirds in the opening match of the Holiday Inn West Bronco Invitational. Friday's win extends Dayton's unbeaten start to 4-0.

"We changed our lineup around tonight," said head coach Kelly Sheffield. "We moved Tiffany over to the left side and Anna came in and played on the right side. I thought those kids both did well."

Dayton was paced by junior transfer Amanda Cowdrey who racked up 12 kills on the day. All-American middle blocker Lindsay Fletemier posted a .400 attack efficiency en route to nine kills on Friday. Tiffany Gaerke had nine kills and sophomore Anna Eytchison had eight kills.

"Tiffany started out slow in the first set, but I thought she rebounded really nicely for the next two," Sheffield said. "Anna was solid all of the way through. She played with confidence and poise and made a lot of good plays for us."

Eytchison made her first career start, filling in for ailing redshirt freshman Rachel Krabacher, who is sidelined with a foot injury.

Freshman libero Paige Vargas tallied a season-high 20 digs. Cowdrey had the second-most digs picking up nine.

Veteran setter Kacie Hausfeld had the majority of the touches adding 29 assists against the Redbirds. Freshman setter Hannah Clancy had nine assists.

The Flyers return to play Saturday against the Wake Forest Demon Deacons at Noon. They will then return that evening in a rematch of last year's NCAA First Round match against the Western Michigan Broncos at 7:00 p.m. ET.
