DAYTON, Ohio - The University of Dayton women’s basketball team held its 11th practice Tuesday evening at the University of Dayton Arena in preparation for the 2010-11 season.
The team splits their time practicing at UD Arena and the Athletic Practice Facility located on campus. The Flyers had their first official practice on Oct. 4.
Dayton has had strong leadership in its first few practices from the three captains. The captains for the 2010-2011 season are senior Kristin Daugherty, red shirt junior Elle Queen and junior Justine Raterman.
In the 2009-10 season, Daugherty, a guard, was named a Second Team Atlantic 10 Preseason Selection and a member of the ESPN The Magazine District IV All-Academic Second Team. She has been named A-10 Player of the Week five times and has scored over 1,000 points in her career.
Queen, a forward, stepped up to the role as captain quickly. She had a season-high of 13 points against Duquesne last year.
Raterman led the Flyers in points per game (12.9) in the 2009-10 season. She was named to the 2010 Atlantic 10 Women’s Basketball All-Championship Team after averaging 19.5 ppg and 6.5 rpg in the Flyers’ two games of the A-10 Championships.
The Flyers look forward to getting the season started with an intrasquad scrimmage this Saturday, Oct. 23 at 7:05 p.m. at UD Arena. Then Dayton has an exhibition game against Gannon on Nov. 2 at 7 p.m. before they take on the Penn State Nittany Lions in their first regular season game on Nov. 12 at 7 p.m. at UD Arena.
