RATERMAN REPEATS AS ALL-CHAMPIONSHIP SELECTION

UPPER MARLBORO, Md. – University of Dayton sophomore Justine Raterman was named to the 2010 Atlantic 10 Women’s Basketball All-Championship Team. She is the only player to be a repeat selection this year; she was also the lone freshman to be named to the 2009 A-10 All-Championship Team.

Raterman, an All-Atlantic 10 Second Team selection, averaged 19.5 ppg and 6.5 rpg in the Flyers’ two games of the tournament. She shot 68 percent from the field (17-of-25) and 50 percent from three-point range (5-of-10). Raterman put up 20 points and nine rebounds in UD’s 83-66 quarterfinal win over St. Bonaventure.

She helped the Flyers claw back from a 10-point deficit against Temple in the semifinals with a game-high 19 points, including the game-tying basket with five seconds left in regulation, and the first field goal of overtime. The Owls used an 8-0 run to prevail 67-64 and move on to the title game.

No. 5 Xavier defeated Temple, 57-55 in overtime to claim the championship and the Atlantic 10 Conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.

Most Outstanding Player Amber Harris poured in 23 points and seven rebounds for Xavier in the final. Joining Harris and Raterman on the All-Championship Team were Xavier’s Ta'Shia Phillips and Temple's LaKeisha Eaddy and Kristen McCarthy.

This season Raterman led the Flyers with 13.0 ppg, and three-point field goals made (36).

Dayton’s record is now 24-7 and the Flyers have posted one of their most memorable years. UD made history by defeating its first Top 10 team in program history, a 77-74 win over No. 10 Michigan State (current RPI of 16). The Flyers won the BTI Classic with wins over the host Purdue (ranked No. 23 at the time), Georgetown (current RPI of 17) and Seattle.

UD won the most Atlantic 10 games in Flyer program history, going 11-3 in the league. The second-place finish was also the best for Dayton.

This season Dayton also entered the AP and ESPN/USA Today polls for the first time, peaking as high as No. 20. They received votes in at least one of the polls for 17 consecutive weeks.

Dayton is projected to earn its first-ever NCAA D-I berth and will learn its fate this Monday, March 15. That is when the ESPN Selection Monday Special will present the exclusive live announcement of the 64-team NCAA Tournament field from 7 to 8 p.m. ET.
