EUGENE, Ore. – Earning a trip to the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships as a rookie, UD’s Katie Nageotte soared to 12-09.5 to place 17th overall at the University of Oregon’s legendary Hayward Field on Friday evening.
Nageotte tied both her season and personal best, as well as the UD school record with her performance.
It was the freshman’s first trip to a national collegiate meet, and the first time a Dayton vaulter had made it past NCAA Regionals. By clearing the opening height, Nageotte placed 17th in the nation and closed out a remarkable freshman season that saw Nageotte snag both the indoor and outdoor Atlantic 10 titles and set the UD school record twice over.
Following junior Mallory Barnes’ 19th place effort in the hammer throw on Thursday, Dayton closes the 2009-10 season with two top-20 national finishes for the first time in program history.
