DAYTON WINS MAGGIE DIXON CLASSIC WITH 92-80 WIN OVER NO. 25 DEPAUL


CHICAGO  – The University of Dayton defeated No. 25 DePaul 92-80 to win the Maggie Dixon Classic Saturday at McGrath-Phillips Arena.

Freshman Amber Deane was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player after scoring a career-high 27 points in the championship game. Sophomores Ally Malott and Andrea Hoover were named to the All-Tournament Team. Malott had her first career double-double with 10 points and a career-high 10 rebounds against DePaul and a career-high 19 points against MVSU. Hoover had her first career double-double vs. MVSU and added nine points in the championship game.

Behind Amber Deane's 12 first-half points, the Flyers led 48-35 at the break. UD led by as much as 20; 48-28 on a Brittany Wilson layup with 1:16 left in the half. Then the Blue Demons used a 7-0 run to close out the half and close the deficit to just 13.

Senior Sam MacKay added 12 points and six assists, while Olivia Applewhite added 13 points, including back-to-back treys to start the second half.

The Blue Demons got within seven points with 2:18 left in the game, but Deane and Hoover both hit layups and a free throw as UD went on a 6-1 run down the stretch to pull out the victory.

The Flyers shot 51.4 percent from the field, the second consecutive game they've done so. It also marks the second straight game UD has scored 90+ points.

DePaul is 150-25 since 2000 at home and it is the seventh toughest place to play in NCAA Division I women's basketball.

Dayton hosts Toledo next Wednesday, Nov. 14 at 7 p.m. at UD Arena. In honor of Military Appreciation Game, anyone who shows their military ID gets a buy 1 get 1 free ticket deal.
