DAYTON, Ohio – University of Dayton Vice President and Director of Athletics Tim Wabler announced today that Assistant Women’s Basketball Coach Angie Russell is moving into an administrative role as the Director of Business/Student Services in Athletics. 

Along with sports program administration over selected sports, the LaCrosse, Wisc. native will be providing oversight of budgeting processes and financial forecasting of the UD Athletic Department, as well as the preparation of annual reports to the NCAA and Department of Education.  She will lead student-athlete welfare services, including serving on University-wide committees and community service initiatives.

“I have really enjoyed my three years as an assistant coach for the University of Dayton women's basketball team and am so proud of how far the program has come,” said Russell. “Transitioning to the administrative team is an amazing opportunity and I am very thankful to Tim Wabler for having the confidence in me to take on the role of Director of Business and Student Services.  I am excited to make this step in my career and to continue providing the best possible resources for our student-athletes.”

Russell joined Jim Jabir's women’s basketball staff at Dayton in 2009, helping the Flyers to their first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance and First Round victory in 2010. Dayton repeated its feat with a second NCAA at-large berth in 2010-11. The Flyers earned an automatic berth this season after winning the program’s first Atlantic 10 Women’s Basketball Championship, making it three straight seasons with a trip to the NCAA Tournament. Serving as the team’s academic coordinator, Russell helped the Flyers became a WBCA Top 10 Academic Team in 2010-11. She was promoted to recruiting coordinator following the 2010-11 season.

Russell came to Dayton from Cleveland State University where she served as an assistant for three seasons. She played a key role for the Vikings as she helped the squad to its' first-ever Horizon League Championship and NCAA Tournament bid in 2007-08. In her role as team academic monitor, Russell helped Cleveland State to a WBCA Academic Top 25 ranking in 2006-07.

Russell was a graduate assistant coach at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, where she earned her master's degree in athletic administration. From there, she coached at Wisconsin-Whitewater for two seasons serving as the recruiting coordinator. Prior to her arrival at Cleveland State, Russell served as an assistant coach at Fort Myers High School in Fort Myers, Fla.

The 2000 graduate of Eastern Illinois University was a four-year letterwinner in basketball. She started 52 of 54 games at forward her last two seasons, averaging 9.0 points and 6.1 rebounds per game as a senior. Russell graduated in three years with a bachelor's degree in speech communication and was a three-time member of the Ohio Valley Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll.
