KINGSTON, R.I. – No. 18/17 University of Dayton defeated Rhode Island 74-48 Sunday at the Ryan Center. The Flyers (15-1 overall, 3-0 Atlantic 10) improved to 3-0 in A-10 play for the first time in program history.
Senior Sam MacKay led the Flyers with 16 points, five assists and five steals. Sophomores Andrea Hoover and Ally Malott also reached double figure scoring with 11 points each. Freshman Kelley Austria tied her career-high with a game-high six assists. Freshman Jodie Cornelie-Sigmundova had three blocked shots.
The Flyers sank nine three-pointers and shot 52.9 percent from beyond the arc (9-of-17), tying their second best performance of the season. Dayton also shot 48.3 percent from the field (28-of-58).
UD won the battle of the boards 31-28 after trailing in that category at the half. The Flyers forced 25 turnovers, their second-highest tally this season and capitalized with 33 points off turnovers.
Dayton returns home for back-to-back conference games at UD Arena: Thursday, Jan. 24 at 11 a.m. against George Washington for its annual School Day Game, and Sunday, Jan. 27 vs. UMass at 2 p.m.
