TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -  TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - The University of Dayton men's cross country team took 12th place out of 20 teams at the 2013 Indiana State Pre-National Invitational at the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course. The Flyers had a total team score of 266, just four from being in the top 10.

UD did beat out Toledo, Youngstown State, Charlotte, Kansas State, East Carolina, Xavier, Illinois-Chicago and Bowling Green.

"We took a big step, competitively, and at a great time as we head into the Atlantic 10 Championship race next," said UD Head Coach Rich Davis. "We ran 12 guys: seven in the varsity race and five in the open race and eight of our runners had personal bests."

Six of seven UD runners in the "White Race" ran personal bests, led by senior Tyler Roeth who finished the 8k race in 25:26.41, good enough for 21^st place of 135 competitors.

Freshman Hunter Johnston had a PR of 26:01.58 and was the Flyers' third man across the finish line. Fellow freshman Michael Tymoski also ran a personal best time of 26:24.54; as did freshman Josh Zemet in a time of 26:28.00. Freshman Ethan Louis also joined the group of personal bests with a time of 26:39.29. Sophomore Matthew Krakora also ran his best time ever, finishing in 26:48.33.

Although he did not run a personal best time, senior Eric Gruenbacher was the second Flyer to cross the line, taking 38^th in a time of 25:52.70.

Sophomore Maxwell Roeske and freshman Alex Kuvin both ran personal best time in the Open Race.

"We are starting to gel as a team and we will be very competitive at A-10s in two weeks," said Davis. 

The Flyers will compete at the Atlantic 10 Championship in Richmond, Va. on Saturday, Nov. 2 at 10 a.m.
