TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The University of Dayton women's cross country team finished up competition at the NCAA Pre-Nationals event in Terre Haute, Ind. Saturday and took home a seventh-place finish out of 35 teams.
"Simply stated, we are better than we showed today, but the good news is the women know that and we will do what we have to do to fulfill our goals the rest of the season," head coach Sarah Haveman stated.
The Flyers posted an average time of 22:16.57 and had three girls finish in the top 50 individually. Dayton edged out South Carolina, Youngstown State, and Texas Tech.
Nicole Cargill led the way for the Flyers with a time of 21:52.11, which was good enough for 30th. Lizzie Gleason posted a time of 21:57.43 to finish in 39th while Katie Ollier finished in 46th with a time of 22:01.27.
Nicole Armstrong finished in 22:42.34 (95th), Mary List finished in 22:49.58 (107th), and Lauren Clark finished in 22:52.59 (110th). Olivia Albers recorded a time of 23:05.49 (133rd) to finish off the day for Dayton.
There were 227 individuals in the "white race" on Saturday.
California finished first overall, followed by Virginia Tech, Xavier, and Illinois.
The Flyers will now prepare for the Atlantic 10 Championships on Nov. 2 in Richmond, Va. Races will start at 10 a.m. on that Saturday.
