PHILADELPHIA - With a season-high 14 kills, senior Shayne Brown led the University of Dayton volleyball team to a straight-set win (25-12, 25-16, 25-14) over La Salle Friday night at Tom Gola Arena. Dayton improves to 7-8 overall and 1-2 in Atlantic 10 play while La Salle slips to 1-20 on the season and 0-3 in league action.

Also for the Flyers, junior Isolde Hannan tallied nine kills and hit for a .467 clip and tallied three blocks on the night. Sophomore Jenna Jendryk set 33 assists and sophomore Janna Krafka passed 17 digs, both match highs.

The Flyers jumped out on the Explorers, 6-0, including three La Salle attack errors. The margin was nine, 11-2, after consecutive kills from Brown and LAS called its second timeout of the set. The Explorers pulled to within six, 15-9, but the Flyers rattled off four straight points to put the game out of reach. Sophomore Angel Agu's strong swing at set point gave Dayton the 25-12 first-set win.

A kill from Brown gave the Flyers an early 5-2 advantage in set two but the Explorers would battle to stay close. A UD attack error cut the LAS deficit back to two, 11-9, but Dayton answered with three straight points to set the score at 14-9 in favor of the Flyers. An Agu kill followed by an Explorer attack error pushed the Flyer lead to seven, 21-14, and La Salle's ball-handling error set up set point for Dayton, 24-15. Hannan scored the frame-winner to give UD the 25-16 second-game win and the 2-0 match advantage.

After a 2-2 start in the third set for the Flyers and Explorers, capped off a 5-0 run with a Krafka service ace to pull ahead, 7-2. A 4-0 run pushed the UD lead to seven, 11-4, and LAS called for a break. Out of the timeout, a La Salle attack error gave Dayton its largest margin of the set at 16-7. Loiars' down-ball two points later quelled the short Explorer run and Jendryk's kill stretched the Flyer lead to 10, 21-11. Agu was back to serve as UD held match-point and an Explorer attack error handed the Flyers the 25-14 set-three win and the match, 3-0.

The Explorers were led by Laura Kuhlmeier with eight kills and eight digs while Michelle Healy set 16 assists.

Dayton returns to action on Sunday with a 1 p.m. match-up at Virginia Commonwealth in Richmond, Va.
