DAYTON, Ohio - University of Dayton volleyball head coach Matt Affolder has announced the signing of Jessica Sloan (OH/RS) to a National Letter of Intent today, the nation's early signing day. Sloan, a Marietta, Ga., native will be joining the Flyers for the 2014 season.

"We are really excited to add Jessica Sloan to our young and athletic core of pin hitters," commented Affolder on the signing of Sloan. "Her success at the high school and club level is nearly unmatched - four state titles and multiple medals in the open division of nationals speak volumes. She has been a player who shouldered a great deal of the swings for both of her teams. We are thrilled to add someone with Jessica's athleticism and versatility."

Currently a senior at Walton High School, Sloan finished her final prep season as the No. 1 ranked outside hitter in the state of Georgia with a .421 hitting percentage and was named the All-Area Player of the Year. She helped lead her team to four Georgia state championship titles and, finished her high school career with a .406 hitting percentage and was a Georgia Senior All-Star Selection and Walton High School Scholar Athlete Award winner.

"Jessica is an athlete who plays high above 10' and has experience being a big-time hitter and blocker on both the outside and right side," continued Affolder. "Having said all that, we are equally excited to add someone with Jessica's character and personality. She is positive, competitive, and someone we know will be a great teammate and leader for this program."

Over the last two seasons at Walton, Sloan has twice been named an All-County and All-Area Selection as well as twice earning mention as a First Team All-State Outside Hitter. She was also a two-year team captain for Walton.

Sloan will be heading to China at the end of November to tour three cities and play against several Chinese teams. She also currently plays club ball with A5 Volleyball out of Atlanta. Both her 16 and 17 team finished in third place in the Open Division at AAU Nationals in Orlando and her 16 team won two National Qualifiers while reaching a No. 1 national ranking.
