MECHANICSVILLE, Va.  – The University of Dayton women's cross country team competed at the 2013 Atlantic 10 Cross Country Championships Saturday morning and ended up with a seventh-place finish.

The 5K event took place at Pole Green Park in Mechanicsville, Va. on a perfect day weather-wise for the conference championship.

Dayton went into the race after strong showings in each event this season. The Flyers have four top three finishes and placed seventh last weekend at the NCAA Pre-Nationals.

The Flyers took home seventh-place out of 12 teams in their first competition against the majority of the teams in the conference. UD posted an average time of 18:07.60 and finished with 163 points.

Nicole Cargill had the top time for the Flyers, finishing 11^th with a time of 17:28.8. Sophomore Olivia Albers finished in 28^th (18:03.1) followed by juniors Mary List in 36th (18:12.7) and Lauren Clark in 43^rd (18:25.4). Katie Ollier posted a time of 18:28.0, good enough for 47^th, while senior Lizzie Gleason (18:38.0) and freshman Kathleen Keene (18:39.6) rounded out the top seven finishers. Nicole Armstrong (18:46.2) and Megan Collins (18:47.9) also competed for the Flyers.

Duquesne's women won the 2013 title, followed closely by preseason favorite Richmond, La Salle, and Saint Louis.

Cargill earned All-Conference honors for her showing on Saturday as well.

Head coach Sarah Haveman talked about the performance.

"We had some unfortunate things happen today," said Haveman. "We are disappointed with our performance as a group. We had our typical 4-5-6 women step up, but it just wasn't enough today to make up for other performances. Just like any other race, we will reflect and move on to the next one."

The Flyers will compete next at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional at the Zimmer Championship Course in Madison, Wisc. on Nov. 15.
