Senior Megan Campbell Leads Four Flyers in Double Figures with 15 Kills

DAYTON, Ohio - The University of Dayton volleyball team closed out its 2013 season with a 3-1 (25-22, 24-26, 25-23, 25-20) win over visiting Bowling Green Friday night at Frericks Center. Senior Megan Campbell led the Flyers with 15 kills while senior Shayne Brown added 13 kills and a career-high 15 digs for her second double-double of the season. Senior Allyson Morey set a career-high 46 assists, narrowly missed the double-double with nine digs and recorded her first three career assisted blocks in the win for Dayton.

Dayton ends the season with a 16-13 overall mark after finishing 8-6 in Atlantic 10 play while Bowling Green falls to 14-16 on the year.

Freshman Aubreigh Applegate got under a career-high 19 digs to lead the Flyers and sophomore Janna Krafka had 17 digs as well. Junior Isolde Hannan chipped in 13 kills to go with five blocks and sophomore Jill Loiars added 12 as the fourth Flyer with double-digit kills.

The Flyers scored the first three points of the first frame but the Falcons would tie the set at six-all on a kill from Lindsey Butterfield. A 3-0 Bowling Green run would set the score at 11-7 in favor of the Falcons was tied again at 12 on a BGSU attack error. The set remained close with eight ties and four lead changes, the last coming at 21-21 when Campbell laid down the kill to give Dayton the lead for good. UD held on for the 25-22 first-set win.

In the second set, the two squads traded points up until a 7-7 tie following a kill from Loiars. Bowling Green took over the advantage with a kill from Paige Penrod and held it until the score was knotted at 23 apiece. A Falcon attack error gave the Flyers set point but UD couldn't convert as BGSU rattled off three straight points to take the second set, 26-24.

Dayton scored the first six points of the third frame, taking the lead over Bowling Green and never looking back. The Flyer lead was eight at 11-3 after a kill from Brown but it was whittled down to three by the Falcons, 15-12. A 3-0 Dayton spurt pushed the advantage back to six, 18-12, and it was seven at 23-16. The Falcons would not go down without a fight, scoring the next four points and then saving set point three times before Loiars' kill ensured the 25-23 third-set win for the Flyers.

Bowling Green served up an error to open the fourth set, and despite five ties in the early going, Dayton would not reliquish the lead in the deciding frame. Back-to-back kills from Campbell and a Brown service ace gave UD a 16-10 lead and the advantage grew to eight, 20-12, after a kill from Loiars. Turner laid down a kill to earn the Flyers match point at 24-18 but the Falcons picked up two more points. On the final play of the season, a Bowling Green attack error sealed the 25-20 win in the fourth set for UD as the Flyers took the match, 3-1.

The Falcons were led by Butterfield with a match-high 17 kills and Ashley Dunn who passed a match-high 28 digs. Erica Fullencamp was Bowling Green's primary setter with 35 assists and Kelsey Bates tallied a match-high six blocks.
