The Flyers Advance To An A-10 Semifinal Match Friday At 7:30 p.m.

RICHMOND, Va. – No. 1 seed University of Dayton defeated No. 8 seed VCU 5-4 Thursday night at Sports Backers Stadium in the first round of the Atlantic 10 Championship. The Flyers (13-5-1) advance to the semifinals Friday at 7:30 p.m. where they will take on  No. 4 seed St. Bonaventure - who defeated No. 5 George Mason 1-0.

Sophomore Ashley Campbell had a hat trick and junior Haley Keller and sophomore Nicole Waters also each scored for the Flyers.

Campbell broke the A-10 Championship single match record for points (7) and tied the record for goals scored (3). She now has 17 goals this season. Senior Juliana Libertin notched two assists, bringing her season total to 15 and tying the UD regular season record.  She is also the NCAA's active career leader with 42.

VCU (8-8-3) scored the first goal of the match in the eighth minute, and then the Flyers went off, scoring five consecutive goals.

Campbell struck first for the Flyers in the 22nd minute on an assist from Libertin. Then Campbell assisted on the next goal to Waters in the 27th minute.

Campbell notched her second goal in the 43rd minute. A little over a minute later Keller scored to give UD the 4-1 lead that the Flyers took to the half.

Campbell picked up her second hat trick of the season with a goal in the 53rd minute on an assist from Libertin.

VCU made a furious rally and scored three unanswered goals to get with 5-4 with 15 minutes left in the second half.

There were 37 shots in the match with UD leading the Rams 21-16 in that category. VCU had seven corner kicks to Dayton's four.
