DAYTON – The University of Dayton women's soccer team welcomes the Fordham University Rams to the Gem City in an Atlantic 10 matchup on Thursday, Oct. 22. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Baujan Field.
Thursday's match will be streamed on ESPN+ with
Alex Mikos and Ian Richardson on the call.
LAST TIME OUT
Dayton opened the scoring on a highlight reel goal, as freshman
Reese Gallagher found the feet of junior
Liv Grenda, who then beat multiple defenders and set fellow junior
Laney Smith for a wide-open goal in the 16th minute.
GW evened the scoring with a goal in the 39th minute, and despite a handful of chances on both sides in the second half, neither team found the back of the net again.
Dayton dominated multiple categories, including total shots (24-5), shots on goal (13-1) and corner kicks (8-3), but the Revolutionaries keeper was up to the task.
THE RACE IS ON
The Flyers currently rank sixth with 12 points, and stand just one point ahead of Saint Joseph's. UD's 12 points are just one back of George Mason and Loyola, and two points behind La Salle for third place. Eight teams make the A10 Championship, with the higher seeds hosting each round.
If the season ended today, the Flyers would be traveling to Philadelphia to take on La Salle.
CONVERTING PRESSURE
UD will look to turn its offensive pressure into goals against the Wildcats, as the Flyers lead the Atlantic 10 in total shots (249) and shots per game (16.60), but are fourth in shots on goal (92) and shots on goal per game (6.13), and are tied for ninth in goals scored (17) and goals per game (1.133).
Dayton has taken double-digit shots in every A10 match, including four games of 20+. The Flyers have had three consecutive games with 20+ total shots, as UD fired 31 (including 11 on goal) at Duquesne, then 24 (with 13 on goal) against George Washington, and another 22 (with 6 on goal) at Davidson.
AGAINST THE RAMS
The Flyers lead the Rams in wins with an all-time history of 18-2-5. Looking to recreate the magic, Dayton aspires to up the current unbeaten streak against Fordham to seven, having won last year's match 1-0 at Baujan Field to advance to the Atlantic 10 Championship final. UD is 4-0-2 against Fordham in its last six meetings.
Leading Fordham, senior forward Riley Carroll was recently named A10 Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week. Known for her impressive hat trick in another A10 conference game versus St. Bonaventure, Carroll has been the first Ram to score three times in one game since 2024.
