DAYTON – The University of Dayton women's soccer team heads to the City of Brotherly Love for its final roadtrip of the regular season, taking on Saint Joseph's in an Atlantic 10 matchup on Sunday, Oct. 5. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Sweeney Field.
Sunday's match will be streamed on ESPN+ with Jake Levin on the call.
LAST TIME OUT
Junior
Lauryn Contini found the back of the net in the 26th minute with assists from sophomore
Emery Newlin and freshman
Reese Gallagher to give UD an early lead and make the score 1-0.
Late in the first half, freshman
Kamryn Hoffman fired one in the net off a feed from sophomore
Caroline Schork to widen the Flyer lead to 2-0 heading into halftime. The tally was the first of Hoffman's collegiate career.
For the fourth consecutive game, Dayton held a decisive advantage in the team statistics, outpacing Fordham in total shots (20-9), shots on goal (6-3) and corner kicks (13-2). It was senior keeper
Kasey Cannistraro's sixth shutout of the campaign.
THE RACE IS ON
The Atlantic 10 Championship kicks off in just two weeks, and the Flyers look to solidify a hosting opportunity in the final two matches.
The Flyers currently rank fourth with 15 points, and stand just one point ahead of La Salle. UD's 15 points are just one back of George Mason and Rhode Island, who are currently tied for second place. Eight teams make the A10 Championship, with the higher seeds hosting each round.
If the season ended today, the Flyers open the A10 Championship with a home match against either Saint Joseph's or Richmond.
CONVERTING PRESSURE
UD looks to turn its offensive pressure into goals against the Hawks, as the Flyers lead the Atlantic 10 in total shots (269) and shots per game (16.81), and are third in shots on goal (98) and shots on goal per game (6.13), but are tied for eighth in goals scored (18) and goals per game (1.188).
Dayton has taken double-digit shots in every A10 match, including five games of 20+. The Flyers have had four consecutive games with 20+ total shots, as UD fired 31 (including 11 on goal) at Duquesne, then 24 (with 13 on goal) against George Washington, and another 22 (with 6 on goal) at Davidson, and 20 against Fordham (with 6 on goal) on Thursday night.
AGAINST THE HAWKS
The Flyers and Hawks have a history dating back to Dayton's first season in the Atlantic 10 in 1996, but the two sides haven't seen much of each other lately. UD and SJU have only played one another four times in the regular season in the last decade and five times total.
Dayton holds a decisive advantage in the all-time series, leading Saint Joseph's 20-2-1. The Flyers are 7-1-1 in Philadelphia, and came out on top in a 3-2 game the last time the two met in the City of Brotherly Love (Sept. 30, 2021).
