NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Atlantic 10 Conference announced its men's soccer preseason rankings and all-conference teams Wednesday and tabbed the University of Dayton to finish fourth in the league.
The Flyers received 112 points, which put them just one point shy of third place George Mason, who will play its first season in the Atlantic 10 this year. Saint Louis had 11 first-place votes and 143 points to put them as the preseason favorites. VCU received one first-place vote and 133 points for second.
La Salle, Fordham, Duquesne, and Rhode Island came in behind the Flyers in the poll. Massachusetts, George Washington, St. Bonaventure, and Saint Joseph's rounded out the preseason rankings.
The Atlantic 10 All-Conference teams were also announced Wednesday with Dayton freshman James Haupt being named to the All-Rookie team. The Canton, Ohio native joins the Flyers for the 2013 campaign and looks to play a prominent part of the midfield rotation.
Dayton's first official game is on Sept. 6 against Northern Kentucky, but still has an exhibition at Eastern Illinois this Saturday at 5 p.m.
