After trading points in the early going, Northeastern was able to go up by as many as six mid-way through the set. The Flyers whittled away at the Huskies' lead and pulled within three, 18-15. UD found itself on the short end of a 22-16 deficit and NU held set-point at 24-18 before taking the frame, 25-18.
The Flyers rattled off the first three points of the second set and a 5-0 run put UD up six, 9-3, early in the game. The lead was eight, 19-11, following a kill from Jendryk. The Huskies would get no closer than five the rest of the way after a late 4-1 run. Dayton closed out the game with a kill from Turner and a Northeastern attack error, 25-18, to even the match at one set apiece.
Morey capped off a 3-0 spurt for the Flyers with a service ace as UD's lead grew to five at 9-4 in the third set. The advantage was five again, 14-9, after a bad Huskie swing followed by an ace from Campbell to give UD its largest lead of the set at 15-9. Facing set point, Northeastern rallied but sophomore Angel Agu shut the door on the Huskies with her first kill of the match as the Flyers claimed the 25-19 third-set victory.
The set was tied at four each when a Turner kill earned the Flyers sideout and senior Shayne Brown laid down a kill to give UD the 6-4 advantage. Affolder was shown a yellow card and subsequently a red, giving Northeastern a point, but Brown answered the call again with a strong swing right into a Flyer kill. The frame was knotted at 9-9 when Dayton put together a four-point rally and Northeastern wanted a minute to talk it over.
After the break, the Huskies were able to tie the set up at 15-15 before taking the lead on an Alexa Armstrong kill. The Flyers reached 20 first thanks to Turner's attack followed by back-to-back kills from Campbell to force NU's second timeout of the frame at 22-18. Holding match-point at 24-20, Hannan and Loiars were strong at the net with an assisted block to earn the win for UD, 3-1.
Northeastern was led by Kelly Bacon with 12 kills and 11 digs while Natalie Skiba tallied a match-high 26 digs for the Huskies.
