Tyler Roeth Takes Third Place Individual Honors For The Flyers

CEDARVILLE, Ohio - The University of Dayton men's cross country team finished third of 11 teams at the 23rd Annual Friendship Cross Country Invitational held Saturday morning at the Elvin R. King Cross Country Course.

Senior Tyler Roeth was Dayton's top finisher in the 8K, crossing the finish line third in a time of 25:43.11, which is 18th all-time on UD's Harrier's Hero list. The next five finishers for the Flyers were freshmen, who were all running their first competitive collegiate 8K race. Michael Tymoski took 12th place in a time of 26:28.52. Hunter Johnston (22nd in 26:46.89), Ethan Louis (23rd in 26:47.82), Kyle Lach (24th in 26:54.02) and Josh Zemet (26th in 26:58.72) finished in a pack together.

"These freshmen ran great races for their first competitive collegiate 8K," said UD Head Coach Rich Davis. "The team ran well as a group but individually we did not go after Wright State's top five as well as we'd hoped. We learned that the essence of cross country is place not time and we learned that the hard way."

Cedarville, ranked No. 14 in NCAA Division II, won the race with a score of 19, while Cumberland (79) edged the Flyers (84) for runner-up. Dayton's team average time was 10 seconds faster than Cumberland.

The Flyers return to action Friday, Oct. 4 for the All-Ohio Championships which will also be held in Cedarville, Ohio on the same course UD ran today.
