DAYTON, Ohio - The University of Dayton volleyball team will hit the road for the first time this season to participate in Ohio University's Baymont Inn Invitational Sept. 6-7. The Flyers will open the tournament with a 10 a.m. tilt against No. 24 North Carolina Friday at OU's Convocation center.
Dayton will play again Friday evening against Cincinnati at 5 p.m. and will wrap up play Saturday at 3 p.m. against the host Bobcats.
ABOUT THE FLYERS
Dayton (2-1) opened the 2013 season hosting its own Dayton Invitational Aug. 30-31 at UD's Frericks Center. The Flyers captured the Invitational title after three teams tied with the best record of the weekend and Dayton came out ahead after set differential and head-to-head competition numbers were consulted. Janna Krafka joined her on the all-tournament team.
Campbell leads the Flyers with a .420 hitting percentage while averaging 3.25 kills/set while Krafka is the team's digs leader at 3.67 per set. Junior

SCOUTING THE FIELD
The Ohio Baymont Inn Invitational field includes regional foe Cincinnati (0-3), No. 24 North Carolina (3-0) and host Ohio (RV, 3-0). The Flyers will kick off the weekend against the Tar Heels at 10 a.m. at OU's Convocation center. The Heels are led by Leigh Andrew with 3.00 kills/set and Kayla Berringer who hits at a .373 clip. UNC dropped only one set in a 3-0 weekend at the Blue Raider Bash hosted by Middle Tennessee last weekend and swept the host Blue Raiders in the tourney finale. In Friday's nightcap against Cincinnati at 5 p.m., the Flyers will square off against the Bearcats who dropped three straight home matches to open the season. Ciara Hill is UC's kills leader with 27 on the young season while Madi Lang serves as the team primary setter averaging 9.17 assists/set. UD will close out the weekend against the host OU Bobcats Saturday at 3 p.m. Ohio picked up a huge straight-set win over then-eighth-ranked Oregon Aug. 31 at the Ducks' Oregon Classic. Kelly Lamberti tallies 3.78 kills/set and Alexis Pinson protects the net with 1.22 blocks/set for the Bobcats.

FLYERS IN THE AVCA RANKINGS
For the fifth consecutive season the Flyers earned a national ranking, coming in at No. 22 in the 2013 Preseason American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Top 25 Poll. UD is currently receiving votes in this week's national poll released Sept. 3, making this the 63rd consecutive week the Flyers have appeared in or received votes for the Top 25 poll. UD's streak of receiving votes dates back to Nov. 23, 2009. Dayton reached as high as No. 10 in 2012, which was the highest ranking in the program's history. The previous high ranking came when UD was ranked No. 12 during the week of Oct. 15, 2007 and Nov. 22, 2010.
FIRST ROUND OF A-10 WEEKLY HONORS INCLUDES CAMPBELL
The Atlantic 10 Conference office announced this season's first round of weekly award winners Sept. 3 and Dayton's senior
Megan Campbell was among the honorees. The Versailles, Ohio, native was named the A-10 Offensive Player of the Week after leading the Flyers to a 2-1 record and the tournament title. Campbell averaged 3.25 kills/set and 4.12 points/set while hitting at a strong .420 clip. She recorded 15 kills and seven blocks in UD's win over Tulsa in the Flyers' season opener. She followed that with two 12-kill performances, including a .522 hitting percentage in a win over Northeastern in which she did not commit an attack error. Campbell also recorded four services aces and 12 total blocks for the weekend. This is the sixth weekly honor for Campbell's career. She has previously been named Offensive Player of the Week twice and has earned three Defensive Player of the Week nods throughout her career.
DAYTON INVITATIONAL CHAMPIONS
In the team's season-opening weekend, the Flyers hosted the 2013 Dayton Invitational and posted a 2-1 record for the event. Megan Campbell has been named to the list of 30 finalists for the prestigious Senior CLASS Award. To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence – community, classroom, character and competition. An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School®, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.
UD PICKED TO WIN THE A-10 CROWN
The defending Atlantic 10 conference volleyball champion Flyers have been unanimously selected as the 2013 Atlantic 10 preseason favorite in a vote conducted among the league's nine head coaches. The Flyers (27-5, 14-0 Atlantic 10) won both the 2012 regular season and the A-10 Championship, their fourth-straight title and fifth in the last six years. The Flyers garnered all nine first-place votes for a point total of 81 in the poll. This was the fourth consecutive year Dayton was picked to finish first in the conference's preseason poll.
FAMILIAR FACE LEADS NEW COACHING STAFF
First-year head coach Matt Affolder is no stranger to the program after spending the last five seasons at the top assistant coach for the Flyer program. Affolder's staff includes assistant coach Stephanie Ross, assistant coach Ryan Freeburg, volunteer assistant coach Matt Girouard, director of operations

PROGRAM ON THE RISE
Dayton currently ranks No. 10 in all-time career wins with 982, passing Illinois State and Texas-Arlington during the 2012 season. The Flyers are just 18 wins shy of the 1,000 win mark, which only nine other schools have accomplished in their history. Dayton's program started in 1970.
