DAYTON, Ohio – The University of Dayton men's soccer team has gotten off to a strong start through the first half of the season and has the friendly confines of Baujan Field to thank for that.
In the most recent NCAA statistical rankings, Dayton is ranked No. 20 in the nation in average home attendance with a 1,527 per game. Out of 205 total Division I teams, the Flyers are in the Top 10% in the country in that category.
Dayton has played four games at Baujan Field this season, with the largest crowd being 2,251 in the home opener against High Point. The Flyers also drew 1,752 fans against in-state foe Ohio State on Sept. 27.
Still to come for Dayton this year are important conference meetings with George Mason and No. 13 Saint Louis at home.
The Flyers lead the Atlantic 10 in attendance this season, edging out Saint Louis (1,387). Dayton also came in ahead of nationally prominent programs such as Syracuse, Georgetown, Charlotte, Marquette, and top-ranked Washington.
Head Coach
Dennis Currier talked about the benefits of playing in front of such passionate crowds.
"The crowds at Baujan give us a tremendous advantage over our opponents," Currier stated. "We get great support from the community and our student section is always loud and completely engaged in the game. This helps energize the team and allows us to gain important momentum."
Dayton will look to add to its total against the Patriots of George Mason this Friday at 7 p.m.
