Kyle Pignatiello has been named Pioneer Football League Special Teams Player of the Week for his performance in Dayton's 19-14 win over Campbell in the season finale on Saturday.
Pignatiello averaged 44.3 yards per punt on six attempts. Four of his punts were inside the opponent 20-yard-line, and literally saved the best for last.Â
With Dayton leading by less than a touchdown, 19-16, and just 40 seconds left in the game, the Flyers were forced to punt from their own 11-yard-line. Pignatiello flipped the field on the Camels, launching a career-best 74-yard punt. The game-changing boot was the sixth-longest in school history and the best in the PFL this season.
A graduate of Tippecanoe High School in Tipp City, Ohio, Pignatiello is third in the PFL in punting average, at 39.8 yards per punt. That is the best season average by a Dayton non-scholarship player. In 174 career punts, he has only 13 touchbacks.
Dayton finished the season 8-3, the team's most wins in four years. The Flyers were also 6-2 in the PFL which tied them for second in the league.
