VOLLEYBALL TRAVELING TO PENN STATE TO FACE AMERICAN FRIDAY

Winner Advances to Play Penn State/Siena in Second Round

DAYTON, Ohio - The University of Dayton volleyball team is traveling to University Park, Pa., to square off against American in the First Round of the NCAA Tournament Friday. First serve is set for 5 p.m at Penn State's Rec Hall.

Dayton volleyball claimed the 2014 Atlantic 10 Regular Season Title (11th) and went on to capture the A-10 Championship Title (ninth) with a 3-1 win over George Washington in the tournament final on Nov. 23. The Flyers played a single match this past week, picking up the 3-2 win over visiting Ohio on Nov. 29 to stretch the team's winning streak to a season-high 13 games. Dayton is led by junior Alaina Turner with 4.19 kills/set and junior Janna Krafka with 4.34 digs/set.

Scouting American
American (26-6, 15-1 Patriot) earned an automatic berth in the NCAA Tournament with its sweep of Lehigh in the Patriot League Championship finals on Nov. 23, avenging its only conference loss of the season. AU is 22-2 since Sept. 13, with both losses coming in five sets. The Eagles lost only at Lehigh and at home to George Washington in that stretch. The Eagles advanced to the NCAA Tournament Regional Semifinals a year ago after sweeping Georgia and host Duke in the first two rounds. AU is led by Allison Cappellino with 3.19 kills/set to go with a team-best 3.47 digs/set.

• Friday will be the first meeting between Dayton and American.

Flyer Facts
• Tim Horsmon is in his sixth season overall, but first since 2007, as head coach of the Flyers in 2014. His record at Dayton is 157-48 and his overall win-loss mark sits at 333-212 in 16 seasons as a head coach.
• The Flyers have won 22 of their last 23 contests. UD is currently enjoying a 13-match win streak, the team's longest of the season.
• Junior Alaina Turner, the 2014 Atlantic 10 Player of the Year and A-10 Championship Most Outstanding Player, leads the A-10 while ranking sixth nationally with 0.51 service aces/set. She also leads the league and ranks 19th nationally with 5.03 points/set. Additionally, Turner ranks in the top 25 nationally in four other categories, including fourth in service aces (63) and ninth in total attacks (1,466).
• Senior Isolde Hannan, 2014 A-10 Second Team, leads the team, ranks second in the league and 13th nationally with a .407 hitting percentage and her 142 total blocks this season is 38th nationally. Freshman Amber Erhahon, 2014 A-10 All-Rookie and All-Championship Teams, ranks third in the conference and 43rd nationally with a .369 hitting percentage. Freshman Jane Emmenecker,, 2014 A-10 Setter of the Year, Second Team, All-Rookie Team and All-Championship Team member, ranks first in the A-10 and 25th nationally with 11.09 assists/set while junior Janna Krafka, 2014 A-10 Libero of the Year and Second Team, is first in the A-10 and 57th nationally with 538 digs.
• With 191 team service aces, Dayton ranks 12th nationally out of 150 teams ranked by the NCAA. The team also ranks 14th with 1,591 assists, 15th in kills with 1,703 and 18th with 319 blocks.
• Dayton has won the Atlantic 10 Regular Season title 11 times (2014, 2012, 2011, 2010, 2009, 2007, 2006, 2005, 2004, 2001, 1998). The Flyers have won the A-10 Championship title a league-record nine times (2014, 2012, 2011, 2010, 2009, 2007, 2005, 2004, 2003) and are making their 10th NCAA appearance in program history. UD has a 5-10 all-time in NCAA Tournament matches.
• Over the last six seasons (2009-2014), the Flyers have recorded a 78-9 mark in Atlantic 10 Conference play, including a perfect 14-0 mark in 2012 and a 15-0 record in 2010. UD suffered only one conference loss in 2014, 2011 and 2009.

Atlantic 10 Coach, Player, Libero and Setter of the Year ...
The Flyers claimed four of the five yearly awards given out by the Atlantic 10 as announced by the league office on Nov. 20: Tim Horsmon - Coach of the Year, Alaina Turner - Player of the Year, Janna Krafka - Libero of the Year and Jane Emmenecker - Setter of the Year. This is the first end-of-the-year award for each student-athlete and the second time coach Horsmon (2005) has been recognized.

All-Conference Nods
Five Flyers earned mention on Atlantic 10 All-Conference teams this season. Junior Alaina Turner was voted to the First Team while senior Isolde Hannan, junior Janna Krafka and freshman Jane Emmenecker appeared on the Second Team. This is Hannan's and Krafka's third year-end honor as Hannan earned mention on the 2013 All-Academic Team and 2011 All-Rookie squad while Krafka was named to the 2013 Honorable Mention and 2012 All-Rookie teams. Additionally, Emmenecker was voted to the All-Rookie team along with fellow freshman Amber Erhahon. Year-end awards were decided by voting of league coaches.

RPI Rankings
Dayton heads into Friday's match holding a RPI (Rating Percentage Index) ranking of 58, up seven spots from last week, according to ncaa.com. American comes in behind Dayton at 71.

13th to 1,000
With two wins at the season-opening Bowling Green Hampton Inn Invitational, Dayton has surpassed the 1,000-win mark as a program and is just the 13th NCAA DI team to attain that level of success. The Flyers currently rank 13th all-time in the Division I record book with an overall program tally of 1,027-556 (.649) over 44 seasons (1970).

Also Passing 1,000
Junior libero Janna Krafka has also passed 1,000 ... career digs. With her 33 digs at the BGSU Hampton Inn Invitational, she reached the 1,000-dig mark for her career. With 1,505 career digs, Krafka now ranks third all-time in the UD career record book. She is 170 digs behind Paige Vargas (2009-12) who currently ranks second with 1,675 career digs.

Emmenecker Setting Her Way into the UD Record Book
Freshman setter Jane Emmenecker passed the 1,000-assist mark during the Flyers' match against Saint Louis on Oct. 25. She averages 11.09 assists/set (1st A-10, 25th NCAA) and has a total of 1,375 assists so far this season. With 1,461 assists in 2006, former Flyer All-American Erin Schroeder holds the fifth-most single-season assists total - Emmenecker needs 86 more assists to break into the UD record book.

Don't Hit On Us
The middle blocker tandem of senior Isolde Hannan and freshman Amber Erhahon are two tough blockers to get past. Hannan is averaging 1.20 blocks/set and Erhahon averages 1.17 blocks/set which ranks tied for third and fifth, respectively, in Atlantic 10 individual standings.

Your Assistance, Please
Senior Isolde Hannan is moving up the Dayton career assisted blocks list as the top blocker for the Flyers this season. Hannan has rocketed up the UD record book this season and currently ranks third all-time with 472 block assists. This season, she has recorded a team-best 128 BAs and is averaging 1.19 total blocks/set (14 solo blocks). Hannan has now recorded at least 100 assisted blocks in all four seasons she has been a Flyer.

Turn Down for What
As the team's kills leader, junior Alaina Turner consistently produces offensively for the Flyers. She ranks first in the Atlantic 10 and 41st nationally with 4.19 kills/set. Turner also pops up in several other categories in the NCAA National Ranking Summary: fourth in service aces (63), sixth in aces/set (0.51), ninth in total attacks (1,466), 17th in total kills (519), 19th in points/set (5.03) and 21st in attacks/set (11.82).

Consistently Accurate
The team's hitting percentage improved considerably since the beginning of the season and the Flyers rank second in the Atlantic 10, hitting at a .251 clip. In other league rankings,, Dayton is first in opponent hitting percentage (.166) and digs/set (15.68), second in assists/set (12.83), kills/set (13.73), blocks/set (2.57) and third in service aces/set (1.54).

Turner, Emmenecker Claim Last Weekly Awards of the Season
Junior Alaina Turner was voted as the Atlantic 10 Player of the Week and freshman Jane Emmenecker claimed her fourth Rookie of the Week nod Monday, Nov. 17 as announced by the conference office. Turner averaged 5.29 kills per set and 2.71 digs per set over the weekend in two wins for the Flyers. She also averaged 5.64 points per set and hit at .395. Emmenecker averaged 11.43 assists/set, including a career-high 53 assists Sunday against Duquesne.
