KELLEY AUSTRIA HAS SUCCESSFUL SURGERY

Sophomore Had ACL Reconstruction Friday

DAYTON, Ohio – University of Dayton sophomore Kelley Austria, a point guard on the women's basketball team, underwent successful surgeries, which included an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction and meniscectomy of her right knee on Friday, Feb. 14.

"This is the first knee surgery Kelley has ever had, and it was completely successful," said Kristin Tritt, athletic trainer for the UD women's basketball team. "She is such a strong kid and will work diligently  in rehab, I'm positive she will make a complete recovery from her surgery and be ready for next season."

Tritt estimates Austria will be ready for practice by summer of 2014.

Austria averaged 2.4 steals per game which is tied for first in the Atlantic 10. She also averaged 11.4 ppg and 3.6 apg in 16 games started before her injury she sustained in the Massachusetts game on Jan. 22, 2014. She also leads the A-10 in three-point field goal percentage (.481)

As a freshman she notched 63 steals which shattered the UD freshman-only steals record, which was 48 set by Tammy Stritenberger in 1977-78.

The No. 25 Flyers are currently 17-5 overall and 10-1 in the Atlantic 10, sitting alone atop the conference standings.
