KINGSTON, R.I. – The University of Dayton women's track and field team finished second overall at the 2014 Atlantic 10 Track and Field Indoor Championships on Sunday.

The Flyers scored 109 points, tying Duquesne for second place. George Mason took home the title with 125 points after a strong second day of competition. VCU and Rhode Island rounded out the Top 5.

"It was a very exciting meet that came down to the last event," said head coach Jason Francis. "The women did an outstanding job of competing all weekend. The weekend was filled with inspiring performances which lead to our second-place finish."

Lizzie Gleason was the runner-up in the one mile event, posting a time of 4:59.01. That put her in second out of 23 competitors.

In the 60m hurdles final, Jordan Hoffman took fourth-place overall with a time of 8.79 while Maddi Schmidt finished sixth with a time of 8.97.

Maya Pedersen took fourth in the 400m finals with a time of 56.41.

In the 800m, Chelsea VanHook posted a time of 2:18.42 to finish sixth overall.

Nicole Cargill finished as the runner-up in the 1000m event by recording a time of 2:54.78, a season-best. Olivia Albers was close behind, finishing fourth and setting a new personal record.

In the 3000m, Katie Ollier led the way for Dayton with a time of 9:47.88, good enough for fourth place overall out of 26 runners.

The women's 4x800-meter relay team finished fourth with a time of 9:17.66.

In the women's high jump, Katy Garcia finished third with a height of 1.65m.

Miranda Nelson was the runner-up in the shot put on Sunday with a throw of 13.92m. That earned Dayton eight points.

Schmidt also finished seventh in the triple jump with a mark of 11.63m. Adria Butler had a strong showing in her first A10 Championships as well by finishing ninth with a jump of 11.40m.

To finish off the day, Dayton competed in the 4x400m relays and took home sixth place by recording a 3:54.19 mark.

The Flyers will now head into their outdoor season with their first meet taking place on March 28 and 29 at the Raleigh Relays.
