FLYER SOFTBALL HEADED TO ELON FOR PHOENIX TOURNAMENT

Dayton to Face Elon, Presbyterian and Coppin State Mar. 1-2

DAYTON, Ohio - The University of Dayton softball team is heading south to Elon, N.C., to take part in the Elon Phoenix Tournament March 1-2. The Flyers will open the weekend against the host Phoenix Saturday at 2:30 p.m. Immediately following, Dayton will square off against Presbyterian and Sunday's slate includes a 9:30 a.m. match-up against Coppin State followed by a second game against Presbyterian.

ABOUT THE FLYERS
Dayton (3-7) went 3-2 last weekend at the Tennessee State Tiger Classic, squaring off against five different opponents over the three-day event. UD opened the weekend with a 3-2 win over former Atlantic 10 foe Temple and closed it out with a 4-3 win over the host Tigers.

Freshman Gabby Snyder was a perfect 3-0 in the circle for the Flyers this past weekend, posting a 2.21 ERA and tossing a complete game while striking out 10 batters. Junior Tiffany Ricks went 7-for-15 with two home runs, five RBI and seven runs scored to lead the Flyer offense and senior Dana Trotta posted the team's best batting average at .385 (5-for-13) among everyday players.

SCOUTING THE FIELD
Dayton will face three different opponents this weekend at the Elon Phoenix Tournament, kicking off play against the host Phoenix Saturday at 2:30 p.m. Elon (8-4-1) is coming off a single-game 4-3 loss to Charlotte on Wednesday but went 3-1 in the team's first home tournament of the season, Feb. 21-23. The Flyers will square off against the Presbyterian Blue Hose twice during the course of the tournament, once Saturday and once Sunday. PC (3-6) hosted future UD foe Morehead State Thursday for a DH at home and split with Furman on Feb. 19 in Greenville, S.C. Coppin State (0-1) has only gotten one game under its belt as its game scheduled on Feb. 26 against UMBC was postponed.

LAST TIME OUT
The Flyers posted a 3-2 mark over the weekend at the Tennessee State Tiger Classic, picking up wins over Temple, Youngstown State and Tennessee State. Junior Tiffany Ricks and freshman Gabby Snyder were both named to the Tiger Classic All-Tournament Team for their play over the team's five games in Nashville. Snyder posted a 3-0 record in the circle and was also in the hitting rotation for four of the Flyers' five contests. Ricks led the team offensively with seven hits, including two home runs and two doubles, five RBI and seven runs scored on the weekend.

SECOND WEEKLY AWARD FOR SNYDER
Freshman Gabby Snyder picked up her second weekly award from the Atlantic 10 Conference office Monday, Feb. 24 when it announced the Indianapolis native the A-10 Pitcher of the Week. She made three starts in four appearances for the Flyers last week, posting a perfect 3-0 record in the Tennessee State Tiger Classic. Against Temple, Snyder struck out three and gave up two earned runs on eight hits in a 3-2 victory. In the final game of the weekend, she pitched a complete game against Tennessee State, striking out a career-high five batters to one walk, and gave up two earned runs on nine hits. She posted a 2.21 ERA over 19.0 innings and was named to the Tiger Classic All-Tournament Team.

COLLEGE SPORTS MADNESS TABS RICKS A-10 PLAYER OF THE WEEK
CollegeSportsMadness.com announced Dayton junior Tiffany Ricks the Atlantic 10 Player of the Week Tuesday, Feb. 25. The Reynoldsburg, Ohio, native started all five games at first base as the Flyers went 3-2 at the Tennessee State Tiger Classic. Ricks had a perfect outing against Temple, going 3-for-3 at the plate with a double and home run. She also had a multiple-hit game in UD's win over Youngstown State, going 2-for-5 with two runs scored and a RBI. Against the host Tigers, Ricks knocked out a three-run blast, her second home run of the weekend and third of the season, in the first inning to put Dayton up 3-0. She posted a .789 slugging percentage and a .368 average and on-base percentage for the weekend and was named to the Tiger Classic All-Tournament Team.

UD PICKED TO FINISH SIXTH IN A-10
Dayton softball has been chosen to finish sixth in Atlantic 10 play this season, according to the preseason poll conducted by the league's 10 head coaches. Dayton tallied a school-record 12 wins in league action in 2013 and made the program's fifth appearance in the Atlantic 10 Conference Championship - coach LaPlaca's second appearance in the post-season tournament in the last three seasons. She guided her team to a 22-24 overall record - the program's best winning percentage (.478) since 2005 - and a 12-9 mark in league action. The Flyers finished the 2013 regular season in sixth place in conference standings.
