ELON, N.C. - The University of softball team dropped two games on the first day of the Elon Phoenix Tournament, 2-0 to the host Elon and 4-0 to Presbyterian, at Hunt Softball Park. The Flyers have two more games tomorrow, meeting Coppin State at 9:30 a.m. followed by the team's second meeting with Presbyterian.
"We were pleased with starts in the circle from
Gabrielle Snyder and
Kayla English especially with Kayla recording a season-high nine strikeouts," commented head coach
Cara LaPlaca. "
Emily Froment came in and shut down the other teams' offense to close out both games. Unfortunately unable to get our offense going and saw some uncharacteristic offensive struggles today. Elon and Presbyterian were able to keep our hitters off balance which proved to be the difference in today's games."
Senior
Rachel Archer tallied two of the team's four total hits on the day and senior
Dana Trotta and Snyder each recorded a double on the day.
