DAYTON, Ohio - The University of Dayton softball team split its Atlantic 10 Conference home opening doubleheader with La Salle Sunday afternoon at UD Softball Stadium. The Flyers picked up the 4-1 win over the Explorers in the first game while La Salle came from behind to claim the 6-5 win over UD in the night cap. Senior Alysha Isaacson went 4-for-6 at the plate on the day including two doubles and six RBI.

GAME ONE: Dayton 4, La Salle 1 | Box Score (PDF)
La Salle (10-9, 3-1 A-10) got on the board first with a solo home run in the top of the fourth but that would be all the offense the Explorers would muster in the first game of the day.

Dayton (12-17, 2-2 A-10) put up a three-spot in the bottom of the fourth to take over the lead. Isaacson doubled in junior Tiffany Ricks and she was brought home on senior Dana Trotta's two-run shot over the left field fence.

The Flyers tacked on an insurance run in the fifth on an Explorer error that allowed senior Rachel Archer to score from third. Dayton held La Salle scoreless for the remainder of the game to earn the 4-1 win.

Junior Kayla English (8-6) earned the win for the Flyers after tossing her sixth complete game of the season. She recorded a career-high-tying 11 strikeouts to three walks and gave up one run on three hits.

Alicia Aughton (6-4) was charged with the loss for the Explorers, also working a complete game. She struck out six batters to only one walk while giving up three earned runs on six hits.

GAME TWO: La Salle 6, Dayton 5 | Box Score (PDF)
La Salle jumped out to the early 3-0 lead in the third inning after a RBI single and two-run homer. Dayton answered with three runs of its own in the fourth after Isaacson's two-RBI double and an Explorer throwing error that brought her home.

Dayton took the lead in the fifth when senior Jordan Jennings' home run also plated Archer as the Flyers went ahead, 5-3. The scored remained the same until the top of the seventh.

Back-to-back singles got two runners on in the seventh for the Explorers and Suzanne Swanicke's bases-loaded double scored two to even the score at five runs apiece. A single to left field plated what would prove to be the winning run for La Salle as the Explorers picked up the 6-5 win.

Junior Lyndsey Diggs (0-2) took the loss in the circle for the Flyers after giving up the winning run in the seventh inning. Freshman Gabrielle Snyder started the game for Dayton, throwing 3.2 innings and giving up three runs (zero earned) on five hits. Sophomore Emily Froment tossed 2.2 innings of relief, striking out four batters and allowing two earned runs. English closed out the game, facing the last three batters of the contest.

Mary Cate Scott (4-5) earned the win for the Explorers. She put in 6.2 innings of work, striking out three and walking only one while giving up three earned runs on eight hits. Aughton picked up the save after facing the final two batters of the game.

The Flyers return to action on Tuesday, April 1 for a doubleheader against Detroit. First pitch is set for 3 p.m. at UD Softball Stadium and admission is free.
