DAYTON, Ohio - The University of Dayton softball team swept the visiting Detroit Titans Tuesday evening at UD Softball Stadium. The Flyers picked up an 11-6 win in the first game of the day followed by a 7-3 victory in the nightcap. Senior Alysha Isaacson went 4-for-7 on the day with three runs scored and three runs batted in.

With today's wins, the Flyers have now won four of their last five games heading into tomorrow's doubleheader against Atlantic 10 foe Saint Louis. Senior Rachel Archer also extended her team-best hitting streak to 10 straight games.

GAME ONE: Dayton 11, Detroit 6 | Box Score (PDF)
The final margin doesn't reflect the way the game started as Detroit (2-20) quickly scored two runs in the top of the first inning. With two outs, Kayla Kostich knocked a long ball over the left field fence followed by a walk and a single. With a runner in scoring position, the Titans singled in its second run of the frame to go up 2-0.

Dayton (14-17) got two runs back in the bottom of the second as Isaacson led off the inning with a solo home run. After the next Flyer batter grounded out, sophomore Kathryn Hess also sent a ball over the fence as UD pulled even with UDM at 2-2. The Flyers put up a four-spot in the third when Isaacson sent a bases-loaded single to right field, plating two runners. Junior Tiffany Ricks was able to score on a throwing error by the catcher while Isaacson was directed home from third base on an illegal pitch to give Dayton the 6-2 advantage.

The Titans mustered two more scores in the top of the fifth on a RBI-double and a Flyer error to cut UD's lead to two, 6-4. Dayton was able to get its bats in motion in the bottom of the sixth to effectively put the game out of reach. The bases were loaded with one out as an Archer single brought in two runners. Senior Jordan Jennings knocked out a three-run blast to give the Flyers the 11-4 lead heading into the last half inning of the contest. The Titans picked up two more runs in the seventh but it wouldn't be enough as Dayton claimed the 11-6 win.

Junior Kayla English (9-6) earned the win in the circle for the Flyers after tossing four innings. She struck out six while walking three and gave up two earned runs on six hits. Sophomore Emily Froment faced five batters in the fifth while freshman Gabrielle Snyder closed out the game for UD, working 2.2 innings. She struck out two and gave up two earned runs on four hits.

Lauren Weldy (0-5) took the loss for Detroit after throwing 5.1 innings. She struck out seven while walking two and gave up seven earned runs on seven hits. Julia Maksym closed out the game for the Titans.

GAME TWO: Dayton 7, Detroit 3 | Box Score (PDF)
It was Dayton that struck first in the second game and the Flyers never looked back as UD put up four runs in the first inning of the night cap. Back-to-back doubles plated the first run while a ball thrown into the dugout by the Titans plated the third. A bases-load walk brought home the fourth score of the frame to give Dayton the 4-0 lead.

Detroit got a run back in the third but Dayton added on three more in the bottom of the inning. A double and a single put runners on the corner and freshman Cynthia Leaton made the Titans pay with her three-run blast, her first collegiate home run, to push the Flyer lead to 7-1. UDM brought in two runs in the fourth but that would be it as UD picked up the 7-3 win.

Snyder (5-5) earned the win for UD as she worked the final four innings of the game, striking out two and allowing two hits. Junior Lyndsey Diggs started the game in the circle for the Flyers, tossing three innings. She struck out one, walked one and gave up two earned runs on three hits.

Maksym (0-7) was charged with the loss for the Titans after throwing two innings. She gave up four earned runs on seven hits. Kat Hoffman finished the game for Detroit, striking out three to one walk and held the Flyers scoreless over the final three innings while allowing five hits.

Dayton returns to action tomorrow afternoon with a mid-week A-10 doubleheader against Saint Louis at home. First pitch is set for 2 p.m. at UD Softball Stadium and admission is free.
