FAIRFAX, Va. - Despite falling behind early at George Mason, the University of Dayton softball team would not go without a fight, plating 10 runs in the fifth inning to overcome the Patriots, 12-5. Senior Alysha Isaacson, freshman Gabrielle Snyder and senior Kasi Vazquez each had multiple-hit games for the Flyers.

With bases loaded in the fifth, freshman Katie Ryan was plunked by the Patriots' pitcher to plate senior Dana Trotta for what would prove to be the winning run for the Flyers. Junior Natalie Mariano extended her reached-base-safely streak to an amazing 20 consecutive games while Isaacson has reached base safely in 12 straight games as well. Snyder recorded her fourth save of the season, just one off tying the school single-season record of five saves held by Isaacson.

Dayton (22-26, 6-8 A-10) continues to battle back into contention for a berth in the 2014 Atlantic 10 Conference Championship to be held May 7-10 in Bronx, N.Y., at Fordham. With Massachusetts' doubleheader at Saint Joseph's scheduled for today postponed, the Flyers move up into a tie for fifth place with the Minutewomen heading into tomorrow's two-game tilt at George Washington.

George Mason (21-18, 5-7 A-10) came out swinging, scoring four runs in the first inning on five hits, including a two-RBI triple by the Patriots' center fielder. The Flyers got a run back in the top of the second as Isaacson was on third and scrambled home as senior Jordan Jennings was put out at first. The Patriots scored another run in the bottom of the second in similar fashion setting the score at 5-1 in favor of GMU.

The Flyers got a run across in the fourth after Isaacson stole third base and was able to make it home on a throwing error by the Patriots' catcher. Trailing 5-2, Dayton would change the game in the fifth. Nine different Flyers scored a total of 10 runs in the top of the fifth, effectively putting the game out of reach for the Patriots.

Snyder batted her first career triple to put herself in scoring position as Trotta brought her home on a single to the short stop, tying the game at five runs a piece. The next two Flyer batters were walked to load the bases and Ryan took one to the body to bring home what would prove to be the winning run of the contest. Mariano was also hit to bring across another run and Vazquez collected two RBI with a single to right center. Junior Tiffany Ricks tripled, plating two more runs, and Snyder brought home Ricks with a single to wrap up the scoring for Dayton. UD held the 12-5 lead in the middle of the fifth and finished the game ahead by that margin.

Junior Lyndsey Diggs (2-2) was credited with the win as the pitcher of record during Dayton's incredible 10-run fifth inning. She faced four batters, walking two, in two-thirds of an inning of action. Junior Kayla English started the game for UD, giving up five earned runs on six hits in 1.1 innings pitched and sophomore Emily Froment work two innings of middle relief, striking out two. Snyder worked the final three scoreless innings for the Flyers, picking up the save.

Christina Gabriele (5-6) took the loss for George Mason after giving up four unearned runs on two hits. Anna Blessing was the Patriots' starter, tossing 4.1 innings with one strike out and three walks. Casey Herring faced six batters with no outs and Stephanie Maher closed out the game for GMU, working the final 2.1 innings.

The Flyers return to action tomorrow with a doubleheader at George Washington. First pitch is set for noon at the GW-Mount Vernon Athletic Complex in Washington, D.C.
