LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Dayton women's track and field team competed in its last meet before the NCAA East Preliminary Round by partaking in the Louisville Twilight Friday.
Maddi Schmidt finished seventh in the 100m hurdles prelims with a time of 14.78. She took fifth in the finals, finishing in 14.81. The senior also competed in the triple jump, in which she took fourth overall and posted a distance of 11.86m. That was a season-best for Schmidt and the second-best mark ever at Dayton behind her school record 11.91m jump.
Nicole Cargill set a new personal record and the fourth best mark in school history in the 800m, finishing in 2:14.13. That earned her a sixth-place finish. In the 1500m, Cargill posted a time of 4:34.49 to finish third overall.
In the 400m dash,
Maya Pedersen took 3
rd overall by finishing in 55.40.
The 3000m steeplechase completed the running events for Dayton as
Lizzie Gleason finished first overall in 10:42.26 and
Olivia Albers took second in 10:46.32.
Ashley DeMange set a new personal best in the pole vault by hitting 3.98m, earning second place. With that jump, the junior is now second all-time at Dayton.
Sarah Gaskell reached a height of 3.53m, picking up 10
th overall.
In the hammer throw,
Aly Weeman took eighth with a distance of 52.14m.
Miranda Nelson finished eighth with a mark of 12.18m in the shot put.
Katy Garcia jumped to a fifth-place showing in the high jump with a mark of 1.63m.
Head Coach
Jason Francis summed up the event.
"We had a great weekend," stated Francis. "DeMange jumped 3.98m which ties her for 34
th in the NCAA East Region. Those athletes who are not moving on had a great meet to end their season or career on."
Dayton will now send student-athletes to the NCAA East Preliminary Round on May 29 in Jacksonville, Fla.
