DAYTON, Ohio - The University of Dayton volleyball team dropped a 3-0 (29-27, 25-14, 25-23) decision to 12th-ranked Nebraska Friday night in the team's opening match of the Flyer-Raider Invitational. Juniors Jill Loiars and Alaina Turner led the Flyer attack with 11 kills each while junior Angel Agu was strong at the net with five blocks.

The Huskers out-hit the Flyers, .273-.214, but produced only four more kills (42-38). As a team, UD put together nine total blocks to UN's eight.

Also for the Flyers, junior Janna Krafka passed nine digs while freshman Jessica Sloan had a career night with eight kills and four blocks to go with six digs. Agu posted a .429 hitting percentage with four kills and freshman Jane Emmenecker set 28 assists. Senior Isolde Hannan also had four blocks on the night for UD.

Dayton (2-2) started off strong, rattling off four straight points to open the match. Nebraska (1-2) stopped the rally and was able to pull even at 7-7 on a UD setting error. The first frame was tied again at 10-all on a Husker solo block and UN took the lead on a Flyer attack error. Nebraska pushed its advantage to three twice but Dayton scored five straight to regain the lead, 22-20. Facing set point four times, the Flyers extended the frame to extra points but the Huskers eventually claimed the first set, 29-27.

It was Nebraska's turn to start strong in the second set, jumping out to the 9-3 advantage. A Husker kill stretched the lead to eight, 14-6, but the Flyers got two back on consecutive Nebraska attack errors. UD decided to call for timeout trailing, 19-11, and out of the break UN rattled off three more points to go up 11. In the end, the Cornhuskers picked up the 25-14 second-set win to take the 2-0 match lead.

Four straight points for the Huskers in the third game before Turner laid down a kill for the Flyers. A 3-0 Flyer run cut the Husker lead to two, 7-5, but Nebraska earned sideout on a Dayton service error. UD continued to battle UN, cutting the Cornhusker lead to one several times and finally pulled even at 10-10 on a Hannan-Sloan assisted block. Dayton's first lead of the set came at 11-10 and each squad had a 3-0 run with Nebraska going ahead, 14-12.

The Flyers held to the Huskers to within two until a UD attack error set the score at 18-15 in favor of UN. Trailing by four, 23-19, Dayton signaled for a break and after the timeout picked up a point on a Turner kill but then faced match point at 24-20. Turner kept UD alive with her 11th kill of the match and Loiars forced a UN timeout when her kill pulled Dayton to within two, 24-22. In the end, Nebraska held on for the 25-23 third-set win to take the match in straight sets, 3-0.

The Cornhuskers were led by Kadie Rolfzen with a match-high 15 kills while Mary Pollmiller passed a match-high 11 digs.
