The second-seeded Spiders needed a pair of three-set match wins to come from behind and eliminate the 10th-seeded Flyers 4-3.
Richmond won the doubles point easily, but UD took three of the first four singles points to lead 3-2.
Freshman
Jackie Kawamoto took third singles 6-2, 6-2. Her twin sister Jade won at sixth singles 6-0, 6-4. And then yesterday's hero, sophomore
Alex Townsend, won her No. 2 singles match 6-4, 1-6, 6-3.
But then at four and five singles, the Flyers had to play their second three-match matches in as many days. After winning the first set in both, Richmond took the last two to advance to the tournament semifinals. The decisive score was 6-7(3), 6-2, 7-6(4).
Dayton finishes the year with eight wins and nine losses, after winning just four times in 19 tries in 2013-14.
