DAYTON, Ohio – The University of Dayton baseball team scored the winning run on a wild pitch with two outs in the bottom of the ninth to take a 5-4 win over Saint Joseph's.
The Hawks jumped out to an early 2-0 lead with a trio of singles to lead off the game.
Dayton answered in the bottom of the second with an RBI ground out by junior
Aaron Huesman.
That score held until the bottom of the fifth when the Flyers were able to tie the game up at 2-2 with a sacrifice fly to left.
The Hawks countered and took the lead back with a single run in the sixth. UD was there to respond once again with a sacrifice fly by sophomore
Matt Poland in the second half of the inning to square things up at 3-3.
A solo home run in the top of the eighth by Saint Joseph's put the Flyers in a 4-3 deficit.
Just like the rest of the game, Dayton was able to tie the score at 4-4 in the bottom of the ninth with an RBI single to left by sophomore
Robbie Doring. It was then on a wild pitch by Saint Joseph's that allowed sophomore
Nick Gobert to score from third that would be the winning run for the Flyers.
Dayton totaled seven hits in the game including a 3-for-4 outing by senior
A.J. Ryan. Doring drove in a pair and Gobert scored the walk-off run for UD.
