DAYTON BASEBALL FALLS IN SERIES FINALE, 6-0

DAYTON, Ohio – The University of Dayton baseball team lost the rubber game of the series with VCU by a score of 6-0.

VCU struck first in the top of the fifth with a solo home run, taking a 1-0 lead over Dayton. A sacrifice fly in the sixth extended the Rams' lead advantage to 2-0.

An RBI single to right and an RBI double to center in the eighth put the visitors even further ahead, 4-0.

Another pair of runs in the ninth frame put the Flyers in a six-run hole going into their last at-bat.

Dayton managed a base runner, but was unable to score the run as the Flyers fell 6-0.

UD recorded seven hits and drew three walks, leaving nine runners stranded. Sophomore Cale Dineen had a 2-for-3 outing to lead the Flyers.

Starter Bradley Horn (L, 1-2) pitched five innings and allowed two runs on seven hits while striking out four. Junior Sam Brunner tossed three frames and gave up two runs with redshirt freshman Jason Johnson and freshman Ben Polansky each seeing time on the mound as well.

VCU took game one on Saturday 5-2 before Dayton evened the series with a 5-2 victory of its own in the night cap. Sunday's game gave the Rams the series victory.

The Flyers (9-20, 2-7 A-10) will travel up the road to Columbus on Tuesday for a meeting with Ohio State.
