DAYTON GETS PAST ILLINOIS STATE, 3-1, IN FLYER INVITE

Turner Tallies 19 Kills, Loiars with 16 for the Flyers

DAYTON, Ohio – The University of Dayton volleyball team outlasted Illinois State, 3-1 (20-25, 25-20, 25-13, 27-25), Friday night in UD's first match of the Flyer Invitational at Frericks Center. With the win, Dayton improves to an even 5-5 on the season while Illinois State falls to 8-3 on the year.

STATS OF THE MATCH
• Senior Alaina Turner led all attackers with a match-high 19 kills to go with 15 digs for her sixth double-double of the season. Sophomore Jessica Sloan also had 15 digs on the night for UD.
• Senior Jill Loiars also reached double-digit kills with 16 and sophomore Amber Erhahon chipped in eight kills to go with a match-high seven blocks.
• Sophomore Jane Emmenecker set 43 assists while freshman Margo Wolf passed 13 digs. Senior Angel Agu was hitting at .417 with six kills to go with four blocks.
• Illinois State was led by Ashley Rosch with 15 kills and Courtney Pence with a match-high 23 digs.
• For the match, Dayton out-hit Illinois State, .237 to .172. The Flyers recorded 59 kills to the Redbirds' 44.

SET-BY-SET
• Set One: Illinois State came out swinging in the first set, jumping out to an 8-3 advantage. Dayton was able to cut it to three a few times but the ISU lead was pushed to seven, 18-11. A late-set rally pulled the Flyers to within three, 20-17, but the Redbirds reached set point at 24-19. UD held once but a Redbird kill on the next point gave Illinois the first-set win.
• Set Two: A Krafka service ace capped a 4-1 run for the Flyers to open set two and a 7-0 Dayton run put UD up nine, 11-2. The Redbirds cut the lead to five several times late in the frame but the Flyers reached game point at 24-18. A kill from Loiars earned Dayton the set, 25-20, to even the match, 1-1.
• Set Three: Dayton rattled off five points to kick off the third set and the Flyer advantage was five again, 10-5, on a kill from Loiars. Turner served up an ace to push Dayton's lead to 10, 19-9, and UD cruised to a 25-13 win in set three.
• Set Four: The fourth set started like the third with five-straight points from the Flyers but the Redbirds pulled to within two, 10-8. A 5-0 Illinois State run erased the Dayton advantage and the Redbirds moved ahead, 18-17. The Flyers found themselves down four, 23-19, but rallied to turn the tables and came up roses, 27-25.

UP NEXT
• Dayton continues play in the Flyer Invitational on Saturday with a 12:30 p.m. match-up with Jacksonville. All four matches on Saturday will be played at Frericks Center and admission is free.
