OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The 2015 Senior CLASS Award candidates were announced on Thursday with University of Dayton graduate student Amass Amankona recognized as one of the honorees.

Amankona was one of 30 male student athletes in their senior season that have showcased achievements in the four areas highlighted by the committee: community, classroom, character, and competition.

After receiving his undergraduate degree in May 2015, Amankona is in his final year of eligibility while attending graduate school at Dayton. A native of Kumasi, Ghana, the senior midfielder has been a leader on and off the field for the Flyer men's soccer program. He was named team MVP in 2014 and earned the Presidential Scholar Athlete Award last year, an honor given to one male and one female athlete at Dayton.

Amankona is one of four Atlantic 10 players on the male list, joining Rhode Island's Mike Casey, Davidson's Matt Pacifici, and Saint Louis' Tyler David. He is also one of three Dayton athletes up for the award this year as fellow Flyers Ashley Campbell and Nicole Waters are candidates on the women's side.

*Each of the two candidate classes will be narrowed to 10 finalists midway through the regular season, and those 10 names will be placed on the official ballot. Ballots will be distributed through a nationwide voting system to media, coaches and fans, who will select one male candidate and one female candidate who best exemplifies excellence in the four Cs of community, classroom, character and competition. ?

The Senior CLASS Award winners will be announced during the 2015 NCAA Men's and Women's College Cup® championships in December.
