NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Atlantic 10 Conference announced its recipients of the 2016 postgraduate scholarships with University of Dayton men's soccer player
Andrew Lightner earning one of the honors.
Lightner, a two-time Atlantic 10 All-Academic team member and a six-time Commissioner's Honor Roll recipient, was named to the Dean's List at the University of Dayton three consecutive years along with being a member of the University of Dayton Athletic Director's Honor Roll all four of his years at Dayton.
He received the 2016 Rev. Charles L. Collins, S.M. Award for Excellence for Outstanding Citizenship in the University of Dayton Community and was awarded the 2015 University of Dayton Athletics' Unsung Hero Award. Lightner also received the 2016 Dr. E.B. O'Leary Award of Excellence and was awarded the 2014 Malawi Practicum Research Fellowship. He has worked as a tutor with the Boys and Girls Club, coached youth soccer camps, and tutored disadvantaged children in the Dayton area.
Lightner was a four-year member of the men's soccer program at Dayton and was on the team this past season that won the 2015 A-10 Championship in Virginia.
The O'Fallon, Mo. native is one of 14 recipients of this year's scholarship, joining student-athletes from around the conference and a variety of sports. It is the second time in the 25-year history of the program that each institution has had a graduating student-athlete receive the award.
