DAYTON, Ohio – The University of Dayton men's soccer program has announced that senior forward
James Haupt will medically redshirt this season, opening the door for his return in 2017.
Haupt was a Third Team All-Region, All-Conference, and Academic All-Atlantic 10 performer last season, totaling seven goals and seven assists. The Canton, Ohio native started all 23 contests in 2015 was tied for the team lead with three game-winning goals. He wasn't only productive on the field, but also earned Dayton's prestigious Presidential Scholar Athlete Award, given to the top male and female student-athlete that best represents the department in the classroom, in the community, and on the field.
Haupt was expected to be the top returner as far as goals, points, and assists were concerned, but will sit out the season due to an injury. It is not expected to be a career-ending injury and he will remain with the team throughout the 2016 season.
"James is an exceptional student-athlete that has been pivotal in our success," said head coach
Dennis Currier. "We are confident he will rehab, lead from the sidelines and return in full health next season."
