TOLEDO, Ohio – The University of Dayton men's tennis team picked up its first victory of the season with a hard-fought, 4-3 win over the University of Toledo on Friday afternoon.

Dayton won the first point in doubles thanks to wins from the pairings of Lorenzo Rollhauser and Bernardo Sanson, and Simon Jayaram and Andy Druffel. Rollhauser and Sanson were trailing 4-2 in the second set breaker and came back to win five in a row and the match. With the exciting doubles victory, the Flyers and Rockets continued the match with an exciting singles bout.

With injuries to two key players, the Flyers got a big boost from Jayaram, Rollhauser and Zach Berry. Jayaram quickly put Dayton ahead 2-0 with a victory at No. 4, but Toledo battled back to win three matches in a row at No. 6, 3 and 1. Much like the doubles win, Rollhauser battled back to win five straight and take the match. Berry clinched the match for UD with an exciting 7-6, 3-6, 7-6 comeback victory at No. 2.

"With having a few guys out today our guys really stepped up. Bernardo and Lorenzo aren't used to playing with one another and for them to come out on top at No. 2 doubles was huge for us. There was no easy courts in singles and our guys did an awesome job of battling through adversity to take down a good Toledo team.

NEXT UP
Dayton returns to action on Saturday, Jan. 21 in its first home match of the season. The Flyers welcome Belmont University to Five Seasons Sports Park for a 1 p.m. match.
