OXFORD, Ohio - The University of Dayton softball team picked up two wins on the first day of the Miami Invitational, 6-1 over Detroit and 14-6 (5) against Fort Wayne. Senior
Katie Ryan was one of three Flyers would recorded five hits on the day after going 5-for-6 at the plate while recording four RBI and scoring two runs. The two-day event is being hosted by Miami (Ohio) at Miami Softball Diamond.
Dayton is now 11-10 on the season while Detroit falls to 3-17 and Fort Wayne moves to 5-10.

Mallory Kimmell at bat, Blarr was sent home on a Titan illegal pitch. With Snyder on first and Davidson on second, Ryan batted a double to plate Davidson for the Flyers' fifth run of the game. Both teams were held scoreless until the sixth when Dayton got another run. After putting two on, Davidson singled to right field as sophomore
Aspyn Novak raced around from second as the Flyers pulled in front, 6-0. The Titans got one back in the bottom of the seventh but their rally was cut short as the Flyers claimed the 6-1 win.

Dayton 14, Fort Wayne 6
Dayton exploded for 10 runs in the first inning of its second game of the day, effectively putting the game out of reach from the start. The Flyers tacked on four more runs in the second and UD led 14-0 through the top of the fourth. Fort Wayne plated a run in the fourth on a sacrifice fly out but the Mastodons came alive in the fifth, scoring five runs in an attempt to stay alive. The lead off hitter for Fort Wayne went long with the game's first home run and the Dons second run scored on a RBI double up the middle. With two on, Fort Wayne sent another ball out of the park for a three-run shot but that would be the end of its rally as Dayton closed out the game in front, 14-6, after five.
