DAYTON - The University of Dayton softball team is set to open the home portion of its 2017 schedule Wednesday against Ohio. First pitch between the Flyers and Bobcats is set for 4 p.m. at UD Softball Stadium.

About Dayton
Dayton (8-6) went 2-2 this past weekend at the Upstate Classic hosted by Furman and USC Upstate. UD split its two games against Canisius, won at Furman and ended the weekend with a loss at USC Upstate. Reigning Atlantic 10 Pitcher of the Year Manda Cash was named the A-10 Pitcher of the Week Monday and leads the team with a 2.43 ERA and 45 strikeouts (2nd A-10) as the squad's number-one starter. At the plate, utility senior Gabrielle Snyder swings at a .511 average (1st A-10, 20th NCAA), connecting on a team-best 23 hits - including five doubles - and has scored 11 runs.

Scouting Ohio
Ohio (12-2) is currently enjoying a three-game winning streak and the team's two losses have come at South Carolina and at nationally-ranked Tennessee. The Bobcats are led offensively by Morgan Geno with a .389 average and Alex Day with 16 hits and 11 runs scored. In the circle, SavannahJo Dorsey holds a 0.99 ERA and has tallied 71 strikeouts over 49.2 innings pitched.

Series Stuff
• Dayton and Ohio have previously met 27 times with the Bobcats holding a 21-6 advantage in the series. The two last squared off in 2016 in a doubleheader on April 20 at UD Softball Stadium. UD picked up the first game, 1-0, and OU claimed the nightcap, 9-4.

There's Your Double
Senior Gabby Snyder is an ace in the circle but she also carries a big bat. After batting her third double on the season Friday against Northern Kentucky, Snyder set a new Dayton career doubles record, a mark previously held by former Flyer Kathleen Maloof - sister of current Flyer Madi Maloof. Snyder now has 45 career doubles.
