Box Score LAKE NONA, Fla. - The University of Dayton women's tennis team put up a valiant effort in the opening round of the Atlantic 10 Championships, but fell to Rhode Island, 4-3 on Wednesday evening.
MATCH NOTES
•   The Rams got ahead early thanks to narrow 7-5 and 7-6 wins at No. 1 and 2 doubles, respectively.
•   Dayton's No. 3 pairing of
Alex Townsend and
Natalie Allen made quick work of their opponent, winning 6-2
•   UD won three of the singles matches, with Townsend convincingly winning at No. 2, 6-1, 6-2,
Jade Kawamoto winning by retirement at No. 4, 6-2, 3-6, 1-2, and
Jackie Kawamoto cruising to a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 6.
•   The match came down to No. 5 singles, where
Natalie Allen gave a tremendous, come-from-behind effort, but ultimately fell 7-5, 7-6.
