DAYTON – The University of Dayton baseball team finished its 2017 season with a convincing 11-2 victory over La Salle, sweeping the Explorers in a three-game set at Spectrum Stadium.
KEY MOMENT
- After La Salle tied the score at 1-1 in the fourth, Dayton took advantage of three Explorer errors to plate three runs and gain a lead they would never let go, earning their first sweep of the season.

Brantley Johnson and gave the Flyers a 1-0 lead.

- La Salle evened the score at 1-1, executing a suicide squeeze to perfection.

- The Flyers took the lead back in the bottom of the frame, scoring three unearned run thanks to three La Salle errors, taking a 4-1 advantage.
Top 5thÂ
- The Explorers plated another run, this time an unearned tally, to bring the score to 4-2.
Bottom 7thÂ
- The seniors shined in a four-hit, six-run seventh inning, as Ryan drove home a pair with a single,
Cale Dineen tacked on another with a single of his own, and
Robbie Doring bashed his third home run of the season, a two-run shot, to put Dayton up 10-2.

- After
Mitch Coughlin reached on an error and
Eric Ashbrook moved him to third on a groundout, Ryan knocked in his fourth run of the game to bring the Flyers to the final score of 11-2.
KEY STATS
- The 2017 season is the 18th and final season for head coach
Tony Vittorio. "Coach V" finishes his career with a University of Dayton record of 464 victories, two Atlantic 10 Championships, and one NCAA Regional appearance.
- UD got great production from its seniors on 2017 Senior Day:
Mitch Coughlin went 1-for-4 with two runs scored.
Nick Ryan had a 2-for-4 day at the plate and drove in four.
Cale Dineen went 1-for-3, scored two runs and drove home two more.
Robbie Doring had a 3-for-4 day, including his third home run of the season, driving in two and score two.

Matt Poland went 1-for-4 with a run scored and RBI.
- In all, the seniors scored eight of the 11 runs and had all 10 RBI in the game.
- The freshman combo of
R.J. Wagner and
Jordan Cox tossed a gem for the Flyers.
- Wagner tossed the first six innings, allowing two runs on just three hits while striking out three. He is credited with the win, his third of the season.
- Cox was perfect over the final three frames, retiring all nine batters he faced and picking up his fourth save of the year.
- With the win, the Flyers reached the 20-win plateau for the first time since the 2014 season.
