DAYTON – The University of Dayton women's basketball team took part in the WBCA Day of Service Wednesday.
The annual event involved over 120 programs this year as women's basketball teams from around the country participated in community service projects as part of an initiative to give back to the community.
The Dayton women's program sent student-athletes and coaches to two separate locations to help support the local community. The Flyers went to the Ronald McDonald House of Dayton Charities where they volunteered organizing and labeling donated foods, folding and putting away laundry, cleaning, and putting away toys. Dayton also had student-athletes go to the Glen at St. Joseph's where they did gardening and other outdoor work.
This is not the only community service activity the Flyers participate in as Dayton women's basketball is constantly finding ways to give back. They even received the Community Service Award at last year's R.U.D.Y.S. Awards Banquet for their involvement in philanthropies such as the MVDSA Buddy Walk, Christmas on Campus, Making Strides Breast Cancer Walk, Top of the Market Blanket Party, YMCA Daycare Toy Delivery, the Hoopla Stem Challenge, and more.
Dayton student-athletes are urged to get involved in community service and the women's basketball program truly takes that to heart.
Be on the lookout for the Flyers at numerous community service events in the future.
