Jack Cook Named STATS FCS National Freshman Of The Week

Flyer QB Threw For A School-Record 432 Yards At San Diego

CHICAGO – University of Dayton redshirt freshman quarterback Jack Cook has been named STATS FCS Freshman of the Week by after his record-setting performance in Saturday's 36-34 loss at Pioneer Football League leader San Diego.

Cook completed 29 of 40 passes for a Flyer-record 432 yards.  He accounted for all five of the Dayton touchdowns – a career-high four through the air and one rushing score.  Trailing by 15 in the fourth quarter, UD scored two touchdowns in the last 7:42, but the potential two-point conversion failed and San Diego held on for the win.

For the season, Cook is 124 of 203 passing (.611), with 1,722 yards, 13 touchdowns and two interceptions.  He is also the Flyer's second-leading rusher, with 303 yards, four rushing touchdowns and 4.8 yards per carry average.  He is second in the PFL in passing yardage (246.0 yards per game) and third in total offense (289.3).

Nationally, Cook is second in both categories among freshmen in the Football Championship Subdivision.

Last week, he was named by STATS to the Jerry Rice Award Watch List.  The Rice Award is presented annually to the top freshman in FCS football.  Cook is one of just four quarterbacks on the 15-man watch list, and the only player from the PFL.

Dayton is back home Saturday when the Drake Bulldogs visit Welcome Stadium.  Game time is 1:00 p.m. ET.
