Box Score KINGSTON, R.I. - The University of Dayton women's tennis team defeated Rhode Island by a score of 6-1 on Friday night to win its third straight match. The Flyers now have an overall record of 8-5 and improve to 2-1 in conference play, while the Rams fall to 1-8 overall this season.
Dayton picked up the doubles point quickly with a pair of 6-1 wins in No. 1 and No. 3 doubles, which featured the duos of Bridgham/Kilstofte and Pleiman/Delaney, respectively.
In singles play, three Flyers won their match in straight sets to clinch the match for Dayton. Senior
Marlys Bridgham defeated Rachel Smilansky, who had the best record for URI coming into today's match, by a score of 6-1, 6-1 at the No. 1 lineup spot and junior
Mattea Kilstofte, who was playing No. 2 singles, defeated Michaela Codreanu by a line of 6-4, 7-6 (5). Sophomore
Natalie Allen was the other Flyer to pick up a straight-set victory with a 6-3, 6-1 trimuph at No. 6 singles over Paige Alshon. The Kawamoto twins also won their matches today, with Jackie winning her first set by a 6-0 margin before her opponent retired and Jade taking a 6-1, 5-7, 1-0 (6) decision over Ariel Haber at No. 3 singles.
