DAYTON - The University of Dayton men's tennis team has a pair of matches this weekend, including the 2019 home opener at the Five Seasons Sports Complex against Belmont on Friday with a scheduled start time of 7 p.m. (ET). The Bruins are 2-1 this season and coming off a pair of wins against Southern Utah and Martin Methodist by scores of 4-0 and 4-1, respectively. The Flyers will be looking to avenge a 5-2 loss from the 2017 season, which was the last time the two programs played during the spring.
After taking on Belmont on Friday night, the Flyers will make a short trip down I-75 for a 5 p.m. matchup against Northern Kentucky on Saturday. The Norse are 0-3 so far this season, but have faced a tough schedule, including matches with Kentucky and Air Force. The Flyers earned a 7-0 sweep over NKU last season and also won all six singles matches against the Norse this fall in a hidden dual match.
Dayton started off the 2019 season with a 5-2 win over Toledo on Monday. The top of the lineup thrived in the victory for the Flyers, as the top three spots in the lineup all won in straight sets.
Jordan Benjamin won his 20th consecutive match in dual match play dating back to near the end of the 2017 season, and newcomers
Langford Hills and
Spencer Richey picked up wins on courts No. 2 and No. 3, respectively.
Lorenzo Rollhauser also won his singles match at No. 6 on a line score of 6-7, 6-4, 6-4.
In doubles play against the Rockets, Benjamin and Richey teamed up on the top court for a 6-4 win, while Hills and freshman
Joe DeMarco won their match on court No. 2, 6-4, to clinch the first point of the match.
